Disney emptied the vault Friday night. The Disney Entertainment Showcase - the movie half of D23, held August 14 at the Honda Center in Anaheim - delivered two brand-new Pixar and Disney Animation originals, the long-awaited X-Men cast, first footage of the live-action Tangled and Star Wars: Starfighter, and release dates stretching all the way to 2029.
Here's everything, studio by studio - with what's genuinely new separated from what got an update.
The brand-new movies
Ghost Market (Pixar, spring 2028). Pixar's first ghost-centered film: Kyle, a fast-talking Chicago teen and content creator, gets dragged on a Hawaii vacation and stumbles into a market that exists between the worlds of the living and the dead. Written and directed by Trevor Jimenez, the Oscar-nominated director of the short "Weekends" and a story supervisor on "Soul."
Clay (Walt Disney Animation, November 2028). A new original where Kieran Culkin voices Flip, a mentor whose first "student" is Mooshy - a chaotic ball of living clay he has to keep alive through a fantastical forest. Disney Animation confirmed the cast, story, and date itself on its official account.
Marvel: the X-Men finally have faces
The reboot's director, Jake Schreier, has been known for over a year. What D23 delivered was the cast: Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm - and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister. X-Men hits theaters May 5, 2028, per Marvel's own announcement.
Avengers: Doomsday, still on track for December 18 of this year, showed new footage built around Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom and the Fantastic Four/X-Men crossover. The Russo Brothers direct.
Pixar's sequels: Coco 2 gets real, the Incredibles suit up
Coco 2 (November 2029) got its first real look: a teenage Miguel, years after the original, confronts a revenge-seeking Ernesto de la Cruz and returns to the Land of the Dead. Benjamin Bratt is back as Ernesto, and the original film's directing team of Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina returns. (Between this and the Coco ride revealed for California Adventure earlier in the week, it was a big D23 for that franchise.)
Incredibles 3 (June 16, 2028) - first announced at D23 2024 - revealed its plot: Violet and Dash sneak out at night to fight crime, angling to become full Supers. Peter Sohn directs from Brad Bird's script.
Gatto (March 5, 2027), Enrico Casarosa's Venice-set film announced back in 2025, screened a new clip for the arena.
The live-action slate
Tangled got the night's biggest live-action moment: first footage, a March 31, 2028 release date, and the lineup confirmed - Teagan Croft as Rapunzel, Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel, and Diego Luna in a still-unspecified role. Michael Gracey directs.
Lilo & Stitch 2 (May 26, 2028) showed the first image of Angel, Stitch's pink counterpart, with Maia Kealoha returning as Lilo and Chris Sanders directing.
The Princess Diaries 3 remains real but dateless: Anne Hathaway, on stage to accept her Disney Legends honor, said the team is "hard at work" on the film. No date, no cast, no title confirmation beyond that.
Romy and Michele 2, the Hulu-bound sequel, revealed its title card on stage with Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino appearing in character. No release date yet.
Star Wars: Starfighter shows its hand - a little
The crowd got its first footage of Star Wars: Starfighter, the Ryan Gosling film directed by Shawn Levy. Lucasfilm kept the specifics close: release timing has been reported for 2027, but neither an exact date nor additional casting was pinned down in trade coverage we can verify, so we're not repeating the internet's guesses here.
20th Century: Ice Age returns, The Simpsons get a title
Ice Age: Boiling Point (February 5, 2027) brought its returning voice cast - Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, and Simon Pegg - on stage with a new trailer, the franchise's first film in over a decade.
The New Simpsons Movie is officially the title of the long-gestating sequel, revealed with a poster of Homer chasing a donut and a September 3, 2027 release date.
And two teases worth knowing about
Convention live-blogs consistently reported a Zootopia 3 tease via a post-credits scene attached to Zootopia 2 - Disney hasn't formally announced the film, and no date exists, so file it under "strongly signaled." And on the series side, Marvel's VisionQuest - the closer of the WandaVision trilogy - premiered its first trailer with an October 14, 2026 Disney+ date, with Paul Bettany and James Spader appearing together.
The through-line of the night: after years of sequel-heavy slates, Disney's two animation studios each walked out with a brand-new original - and the biggest applause lines still went to Jean Grey and Rapunzel.
