Does Universal Express Pay for Itself?

The real Universal question isn't whether Express is worth it — it's whether you should pay up for a hotel that includes it. Here's the math, both ways.

Updated 07.24.26
Read this before you book: free Unlimited Express is a benefit of exactly three hotels — Loews Portofino Bay, Hard Rock Hotel, and Loews Royal Pacific Resort — and it covers Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure only. No Universal hotel includes Express at Epic Universe, and that includes Helios Grand right next door to the park. Epic Universe Express is a separate purchase, and it's single-use per attraction rather than unlimited.

Your Trip

Premier Express covers every guest staying in the room — this is what makes it work for bigger parties.

Don't count Epic Universe days — Express there is never included with a hotel stay. The Premier benefit does cover your check-in and check-out days, so a 3-night stay can mean 4 usable days.

Two-park Unlimited runs roughly $120 on the quietest days to well over $300 at peak. Check Universal's site for your exact dates.

Cabana Bay, Aventura, Endless Summer, or an off-site hotel.

Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, or Royal Pacific — the three that include Express.

The Math

Cheaper hotel + buying Express $1,340
Premier hotel, Express included $1,350
Difference between the two $10

How we figure it: both paths are costed end to end — the buy path is your hotel nights plus Express for everyone for the days you'd use it; the Premier path is just the room, since Express comes with it. We call anything inside a $150 swing a coin flip, because at that range the Unlimited re-rides, walk-to-park location, and arrival-day coverage matter more than the dollars.

Three things that change this math

  • Unlimited beats single-use by more than it sounds. The Premier benefit is Unlimited Express — ride the same coaster four times in a row if you want. Paid Express is often the single-use version unless you pay up, and Epic Universe has no Unlimited option at all.
  • Hagrid's no longer accepts Express. As of July 1, 2026, Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure was pulled from the Express program entirely — including the free Premier hotel benefit. If that ride was your reason for booking Premier, that reason is gone. Full story here.
  • Party size swings it hard. Express is priced per person while the hotel is priced per room, so a party of five tips toward Premier far faster than a couple does. Run it with your real numbers rather than assuming.

Express Pass and hotel rates are dynamically priced and change constantly — confirm current pricing on Universal Orlando's official site for your exact dates before booking. This is an independent planning tool and isn't affiliated with Universal.
