Universal Just Pulled Its Most Popular Ride From Express Pass, and Fans Are Not Happy

Effective July 1, 2026, Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is no longer part of Universal Orlando's Express Pass program at Islands of Adventure. That applies across the board — paid Express Pass, Express Unlimited, and the complimentary Express access that comes with staying at a Premier-tier on-site hotel. Every guest now goes through the same standby line, full stop.

Universal is calling it an operational change meant to "improve the flow of the experience for all of our guests," and the reasoning tracks with what regular visitors have been saying since Express access rolled out for the ride in 2025: standby wait times climbed noticeably once an Express line was competing for the same limited ride capacity, and satisfaction dropped in both lines as a result. Pulling Express is Universal's fix for that imbalance — fewer queues feeding the same coaster, in theory, means a more predictable line for everyone standing in it.

Not everyone's convinced that's a fair trade, especially guests who booked a Premier hotel stay specifically for the free Express perk and are now getting a materially different benefit than they planned for. If Hagrid's was the ride your Express Pass strategy was built around, it's worth rethinking your Islands of Adventure plan — rope drop and a hard commitment to the standby line are now your best tools for a short wait, the same as any other E-ticket without Express.

We'll keep watching to see whether this stays permanent or whether Universal walks it back once the standby data settles — this kind of change has gone both ways before.
